Well,
Drew Carey moved to Mondays just before Monday Night Football. Tonight’s episode showed that the series is showing no signs of slowing down. Still, after all these years, Drew Carey has been able to maintain the same, querky, off-beat sense of humor. The faces haven’t changed, but the stories keep fresh.
We’ll see how this season fares for Drew Carey, but for now the show is out of the gate ahead, let’s see how the other shows do.

Going to See WWE Smackdown!
Nancy won floor tickets to the taping of WWE Smackdown at the Target Center here in Minneapolis…
So we’ll be going, apparently they’ll be featuring the first ever televised Gay Wedding between two on-screen (or in-ring) Gay characters. I’m not sure how I feel about this. I guess I’ll wait to see how they pull it off, since this is an obvious ratings attempt since Thursday night has a ton of Premier shows.
So I guess you’ll just have to wait and see, I’ll post more after the show.

Final Thoughts on Gnomedex 2002
Ok,
Here it is… My final thoughts, after having a week or so to digest a great conference and its content.First off, The Presenters. Top Notch! From Leo Laporte’s Keynote (at the end of all places) to Doc Searls and his adventures in Linuxland…
I was quite impressed with Rob Rosenberger vs. Steve Gibson (even though I side with Steve, Rob put on a great show).
Ev from Blogger did a good job.
Phil “Pud” Kaplan (F’d Company.com) and Mark Thompson (AnalogX) showed that even today you can succeed in .com’s. These two were probably polar opposites in philosophy of business and programming, but both are models of success in today’s internet.
Even the ASP (Association of Shareware Providers) did a decent job presenting their side. Though I don’t agree with paying for something I’d code in a few lines, a lot of people out there don’t have the skills but have the dough to pay for the shareware. The few pieces of shareware I have bought have been to reward the author(s) because they did put out a great or solid piece.
All in all… A great show, gave me some great ideas, thought starters, but most of all, hope. The future is now, we are just about to see a huge shift in the Tech world.
The dinosaurs are almost done, its time for us to take over 🙂

Back from Gnomedex 2002
Well,
I’m back from Gnomedex 2002, and what a blast! Last night was great, the chance to hear Doc Searls, Evan Williams and Leo Laporte all in one afternoon just takes the cake.
I’ve gotten several cool ideas that came out of listening to all the speakers, as well as the great opportunity to talk to them after the speaches. What other conference gives you total access to its speakers. Gnomedex had no elitism amongst the group or its presenters. Sure, there were separate groups but I think everyone went out of their way to make sure they met new people and had a good time.
I’ll probably post more information on my ideas at a later date, for now, they are “development secrets”. Hehe, sounds cool anyway.
I have some more pictures to wrap up the event and close up the coverage of Gnomedex, but you’ll have to wait for those. I’ll try to put them all in one comprehensive area for your viewing pleasure.

Gnomedex Saturday Morning Update
Just heard Phil “Pud” Kaplan speak on the successes of his adventures with the web. His F’d Company has brought him a tremendous success by taking the input of the average user and selling it to the folks looking for that “average user” opinion or inside track.
Right now, Mark Thompson of AnalogX is speaking about Web Development in the post .com bust.
The morning session has been great, still haven’t won anything in the drawings, but I guess that’s a good thing…

Goodnight from Gnomedex…
Well, just finishing up the nights festivities…
A new Ms and Mr. Gnomedex have been crowned! A tough contest, which came down to the wire…
Karokee has been going all night long, some good, some bad, but all in good fun.
The Celebrity trivia was a blast, Leo, Chris and David stole the show! Pictures to follow, when I get around to it. (I’ll also be uploading some higher res versions of all the pictures when I can create a better photo album for them all.)
But for now, on to the next day (gotta get some sleep first!)

Gnomdex First Impressions
Lots of people here. I am impressed at the cross section of people who turned out. You have your twenty-somethings, single or married. You have your middle aged males who have taken “geek” to an extreme. Wired out to the hilt…
Another nice thing to see is the number of Mac’s and PC’s people brought. Of course right now the wireless internet that Proxim was supposed to provide is down. So I am typing this “offline” and will post when it’s up or when I get back to the hotel room on dial-up. Ack, I hate dialup.
Well, its going on 10:00am and already hit all the vendors, got a few free trinkets, met a few nice people, registered for some giveaways. It’s nice to see the vendors that are here, but hopefully next year they can attract a lot more since this is the “geeks” of today and a few for tommorrow.
That’s it for now, be back with more, once this whole deal actually starts…

Wireless Access @ Gnomedex
Well,
Thanks to the great folks at Proxim they loaned me (after giving them my credit card info) an 802.11a card and I am now up and surfing the web.
A few quick updates to the site and then I’m off to listen to Steve Gibson talk about the future of virus’s and the internet.
This morning’s 2 speakers were good. First on was talking about Virus Hoax’s and the history of them. Next presenter discussed the world of Shareware authoring and the pits and perils, as well as tips and tricks. A little on the dry side, but very informative. Hard to follow Virus Hoax’s but they did a very good job.
Overall, my first impressions of Gnomedex are excellent. Everyone is very friendly, helpful and very approachable.
I’ll be posting some pictures here later, gotta find that cable that connects the camera first 🙂

Made it to GnomeDex 2002
Well,
I made the journey to Des Moines, Iowa. About 4 hours of driving. Straight south.
Got to the location of Gnomedex 2002, the Marriot in Downtown Des Moines. Checked in. Dropped off the luggage in the room, called the wife and then headed to the “unofficial” welcome event at the bar called “Shooters”.Not knowing anyone here, it was fun getting to know some of the people. Talked to Chris Pirillo, the host of the whole deal… Met his wife, Gretchen, who I’ve exchanged a few emails with. Also, saw Leo Laporte and Megan Maronine from The Screensavers on TechTV. Met a lot of other great folks as well. One from as far away as Okinawa, Japan.
Gnomedex 2002 looks like it will be a great show, don’t want to set any expectations, but if the “unofficial” welcome event is a preview… Then the event itself will be a great time.
Anyways, I’ll be giving some reports throughout the next couple of days, including some pictures. Stay tuned…
